COUNCIL CALENDAR!
COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Everett PTSA Council 7.3 - Outstanding PTA Council of the Year!
Picture
Picture
At the Washington State PTA (WSPTA) Convention in mid-May, our council was announced as the 2021-2022 Outstanding PTA Council of the Year. This honor was truly unexpected but is definitely appreciated. When the 2021-2022 PTA term began, we had some returning board members and some new board members. Between the previous PTA term and this term, our council board went from having longest-tenured members being 5-10+ years in council to all members being 0-3 years in council this term. But although this was a fairly inexperienced group in regard to direct involvement in a council board, each person brought an array of experience from the local PTA level and a commitment to providing support to our local PTAs. We learned from each other, a lot of fresh ideas were explored, and we all came together as a team.

This team worked exceptionally hard to set a good example for our local PTAs and supporters. Did all of our ideas and plans work as expected? No. Are there opportunities for improvement and further growth? Definitely. But our mutual respect for each other, while trying to maintain best practices and provide assistance where needed, led to many successes for this team.

This team's commitment to teamwork, communication, and recognition for our volunteers and supporters were exceptional. We worked with local PTAs to provide guidance and support throughout the entire PTA term. We also applied for all seven WSPTA Awards of Excellence, achieving top level in each of them (Platinum Level for Standards of Excellence, and Gold Level for Outstanding Communication Strategy, PTAs Taking Significant Action, Advocacy, Family and Community Engagement, Outstanding Newsletter, and Outstanding Website). Our council reached Platinum membership growth. We passed our first-ever Council Resolution, one which demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability. We worked with the school district to provide families and community members with multi-lingual resources. We collaborated with PTA leaders not only within our own district but also other districts and Regions.

But none of this would have been possible without YOU. Everyone from our Council Board of Directors to our local PTA leaders to our school & district staff members to the children, families, and community members to our supporters made ALL of the successes possible this school year. To be "Outstanding PTA Council of the Year" is not an individual achievement; we share this honor with all of you. For your ongoing support, THANK YOU.

End-Of-Survey Results
YOU RESPONDED, WE LISTENED!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our End-Of-Year Survey. The survey results were recently discussed by our Council Board at our Board Retreat.

First, although many of our local PTA leaders know what council is and are satisfied with our support, we recognize that there are a lot of new PTA leaders in the district and that we always look for ways to improve communication and outreach. One of the ways we hope to improve council familiarity and support is by offering our Council Contacts program, for which each local PTA will have a designated liaison / support person from our council whom that PTA Board can go to with questions or concerns. Another way we hope to improve support is by offering multiple council-led WSPTA-approved trainings throughout the school year, as well as continue to promote training opportunities offered by WSPTA and Region leaders. And if your PTA has a specific training topic you are interested in, let us know!

The survey results also highlight that the vast majority of our local PTA leaders would like our council membership meetings to be in a hybrid or online format. Although each of our membership meetings will be officially held at the CRC this school year, we intend to offer each of those meetings in a "hybrid" format, where local PTA leaders can attend our membership meetings virtually from their homes. We recognize that this is a large school district and everyone has different work and life commitments, so by offering our membership meetings in a hybrid format we hope this was help accommodate more local PTA leader attendance!
The survey results also highlight a real interest and opportunity to further promote FACE (Family & Community Engagement) and DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) within our local PTAs, Council, District, and community. The survey results also indicate interest in providing ideas for programs and events. Our FACE/DEI Chair, our Programs Chair, and the rest of our Council Board will be working diligently throughout this PTA term to promote PTA events, programs, and activities, and promote training opportunities and guidance for how to do such activities in an inclusive manner. As part of these efforts, our Council Board plans to further explore and integrate translation services to help improve more multicultural involvement in PTA activities. Our council also plans to work with our district's strategic partners to host events for our district and community families. (Stay tuned!)

Our council will continue to review the survey results to find ways for continued improvement. Thank you to everyone who participated in our End-Of-Year Survey; your feedback is ALWAYS important!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Goodbyes and Hellos

Hi everyone! We hope you are enjoying Summer and welcome to the new PTA Term!

First and foremost, thank you for all that you have done during the past year. We are very hopeful that the upcoming school year will begin to bring back a sense of normalcy and collaboration. We are all getting through these unique times together and we want you to know that your Everett PTSA Council is always available to provide support if needed.

Second, our council would like to express appreciation for our Board members whose terms just concluded. Stephanie Cherry (Secretary), Abbey McGee (Shoe Fund Chairperson), and Barb Lawrence (Member-At-Large, North) are each moving on from council to pursue other commitments. We wish all of our departing council members good tidings and success in their future endeavors, whether in PTA or otherwise.

But as is common in PTA, departures bring new opportunities and our council is no exception. We potentially have the most diverse council ever, with our Board members coming from a variety of backgrounds and providing PTA representation from across the district (from the north, south, and points in-between). Plus, our incoming council has 16 Board members, all of whom bring an abundance of experience for their respective council roles including 10 people who are or have been local PTA Presidents. We are proud to announce our 2022-2023 Everett PTSA Council Board:
  • President: Craig Willis from Forest View PTA and Gateway PTSA (Returning Council member, in same role)

  • Secretary: Amber Ortega from View Ridge PTA (New to Council!)
  • Treasurer: Mee Yoke McGuire from Everett High PTA (Returning Council member, in same role)
  • Communications Chair: Lisa Syravong from Gateway PTSA and H.M. Jackson High PTSA (Returning Council member, in same role)
  • Programs Chair: Margaret McAdams from Mill Creek PTA and Heatherwood PTA (Returning Council member, in same role)
  • F.A.C.E. / D.E.I. Chair: Jenn Lyons from Silver Firs PTA and Gateway PTSA (New to Council!)
  • Advocacy Chair: Clarissa Phillips from Heatherwood PTA and H.M. Jackson High PTSA (Returning Council member, in same role)
  • Shoe Fund Chair: Michelle Thomas from H.M. Jackson PTSA (New to Council!)
  • Co-Reflections Chair: Georgina Johns from H.M. Jackson High PTSA (Returning Council member, in same role)
  • Co-Reflections Chair: Cam-Tu Vo from Eisenhower PTSA (New to Council!)

  • Region 7 Representative: Valerie Cunningham from Special Education PTSA (Returning Council member, in new role)
In conclusion, whether you are a new or returning PTA member, and no matter what your familiarity is with Council, we want you to know that we will be here to support you throughout the 2022-2023 school year! You all make major, positive differences in the lives of students, staff, families, and the community. Thank you for all that you do!

Best Regards,

End-Of-Year Survey Drawing Winner Announcement

Congratulations to Rebecca Mbwilo from Port Gardner/Sequoia PTSA, whose name was drawn as the winner of a $25 Amazon gift card after submitting our end-of-year survey!

And THANK YOU to EVERYONE who responded to our end-of-year survey! Our council will be reviewing the responses and your feedback is appreciated! We will be using this feedback to accomplish more great things for our local PTAs next term!

Everett Public Schools Date Guidelines for PTA Meetings & Events
Everett Public Schools (EPS) has specific date guidelines for when school event nights should occur, depending upon which school level (elementary, middle, high). These date guidelines also apply to PTA meetings and PTA events. When your PTA plans its meetings and events for the 2022-2023 school year, it is important to not only have those dates approved by school administration but also follow the EPS event night date guidelines.
Please download the 2022-2023 EPS Designated School Event Night guideline document and review with your PTA Board for planning purposes.*

*IMPORTANT: During the past several years, Everett PTSA Council 7.3 has scheduled its meetings on the Third Wednesday of each month during the school year. We ask that your PTA please keep that night open from having meetings or events, so that your PTA can have members attend our council membership meetings. Your support is both needed and appreciated!
(We will announce our council meeting schedule in late July, after our Council Board Retreat)MEMBERSHIP

Council Climate Resolution Presentation to School Board!

Advocacy Chair Clarissa Phillips presenting the Council Climate Resolution

On June 14, 2022, our council presented our first resolution to the Everett Public Schools Board! This resolution: Taking Action on Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change is posted on our website, and the link is available on the Advocacy page. There you will also find an info sheet about the resolution. This approval provides our council the opportunity to work with other PTA's in our district and with Everett Public Schools to guide and support sustainable practices and develop an implementation plan. We look forward to this collaborative process and invite other PTAs to join us with a shared vision to support sustainable practices in our schools and community. We’re grateful for everyone who participated in adopting this resolution!

As the school year winds down, take a few minutes to reflect on all that you and your PTA were able to accomplish this year in working with your school. We've come a long way in the last few years, and I know that our schools appreciate the PTA's support and advocacy. Thanks for all that you do!

Thank you to all PTAs/PTSAs who  donated to the Shoe Fund. We were able to serve over 240 students at 14 schools during the 2021-2022 school year! The need was greater than ever before and because of your generous donations, we had the resources to help many students!

WASHINGTON STATE PTA NEWS
MemberPlanet to be Inactive July 1-15

MemberPlanet will be down from July 1 through July 15 for the yearly turnover. Please note that if you have assigned membership between June 5 and June 30 your PTA will have an invoice in July. If you do have an invoice in July, it will be due on July 20.

Once full access is open again, you can easily re-open your membership packet. Please DO NOT edit the URL. If you do, anywhere it has been previously shared will have a broken link! If you are using forms, such as donation forms/spirit wear/yearbooks etc., it is best to re-create that form and reattach.

Good transitions can make all the difference. If you are not continuing in the same role next year, make sure to work with your replacement or co-chair. Take time to let them know what worked, what didn’t, and pass on working knowledge of membership/member planet, as well as your position binder/electronic files.

As your board meets over the summer, think of what your membership goals for next year will be. I strongly suggest that each and every PTA aim for at least one member more than this year! While you are planning your year, take advantage of tools at Local Leader Kit | National PTA. You will need to log in to access these.

Update Your 2022-2023 Officers in MemberPlanet
Updating your officers in MemberPlanet needs to be completed each year. If your PTA's MemberPlanet administrator has not already done so, then after July 15 that person can enter next year's officers by clicking Committees, and then click the box for Upcoming Term. Click the green plus next to the position. That will bring up your membership roster, click the blue assign role button for the correct name for that role, and then click continue. Click here for a quick video on Entering 2022-2023 Board & Officers.
